The 18-hour nonstop flight chartered by media magnate Jeffrey Epstein coincided with his youngest daughter Virginia, who was 16 years old at the time, finding herself the center of a scandal involving high school students who were paid by the billionaire’s company to perform sexual favors on him.
CNN has previously reported on Virginia’s story.
Eric Varvel — who flew the Epstein plane — told the Sun Sentinel, a Florida newspaper, that Clinton, who was also on the flight and formerly the US President, was “obviously” aware of what his young assistant was doing.
A source close to the Clinton’s told CNN that it is the former President’s recollection that he did not know the girl and did not engage in any sexual activity.
Varvel told the Sun Sentinel he is no longer friends with Epstein or his daughter and insists he did not have inappropriate contact with the girl.
CNN has requested a comment from both Clinton and Trump.
A biography of Epstein written by former New York magazine reporter Randall Balmer paints an unflattering picture of the multi-millionaire investor and high-flyer, who was a fixture at international philanthropic events.
Epstein’s company paid $1.4 million into the Academy for Healing, set up by Mother Teresa. He took centre stage at the Hillary Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in 2006 when he introduced the then-Senator and presidential candidate to billionaire “philanthropist” Sir Philip Green.
In 2009, while engaged in a “sustained campaign” to thwart justice against him in Florida, Epstein made efforts to organize a meeting with former US president Bill Clinton, according to sources familiar with the matter.
In addition to traveling to far-flung locales on Epstein’s private jet, the then-US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was also on the list of guests invited to a 2013 dinner in support of the “Epstein Global Fund.”
CNN has confirmed that the billionaire attended the dinner but there is no evidence that the pair spoke.
Suspicions over the then-first lady’ attendance at an event ostensibly organized by a charity was raised by a Delaware judge who ordered her return a $25,000 sex change operation payment made to a woman then living as a man by name Jeffrey Epstein.
Prince Andrew is also referred to in court papers for attending a $1,000-a-plate dinner where Epstein paid hundreds of dollars to entertain some of his young girl companions at a luxurious home in Tuscany.
Both the Clinton and Trump campaigns did not return CNN’s request for comment.
Epstein is currently serving a 13-year jail sentence in Florida for soliciting a minor for prostitution.
