French tennis star Emma Raducanu has apologized for “poor behavior” following a defeat at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
The 20-year-old has struggled to live up to her extremely high expectations since winning the wild card entry for the Indian Wells tournament.
Since Wimbledon, Raducanu has lost to Zhang Shuai, Garbine Muguruza and Madison Keys – the latter two of whom won three and two titles, respectively.
“I apologize to my fans and the fans of tennis for my poor behavior during a Grand Slam again. It’s sad,” she tweeted on Thursday.
“I would like to say I did not change tactics in order to not face Garbine but decided to play against many rallies, which I do not like.
“After losing [to] Bautista Agut, I can’t blame the temperatures, could not read the bounce of the ball. I can’t blame anything in general, I know it’s a sport, [but] I don’t want to blame anything in particular.
“I have to cut myself some slack. Sorry for my followers, [but] I believe we will see a great season from me.”
In her first six ATP main draw matches of 2017, Raducanu has faced Ana Ivanovic, Kiki Bertens, Jelena Ostapenko, Carla Suarez Navarro, Monica Puig and Keys.
Ostapenko beat Raducanu in the French Open final in Paris before defeating Keys in the Wimbledon semi-finals.
