Why won’t my husband push back against his ignorant sister?

My husband is becoming more self-aware. If I cross his path, he says what was said behind my back. But none of this is changing his attitudes toward us and our world. My brother is always saying mean things about me and our family. He recently used the words cunt and retarded and it turned into a full on verbal attack… What is to be done?

My family is very close and every time one of my cousins, nephew or niece makes a statement, we all get mad at each other. And of course there’s no yelling, it’s just words thrown around like playground taunts. My dad even made a comment that is very hurtful. My uncle refuses to grow up and I feel like he’s putting his foot down, but since he’s not going to change, I’m going to have to wait until he dies before I can have my truth. What should I do?
